About

Otherwise this stone would seem defaced
beneath the translucent cascade of the shoulders
and would not glisten like a wild beast's fur:

would not, from all the borders of itself,
burst like a star: for here there is no place
that does not see you. You must change your life.

-Rainer Maria Rilke, excerpt from “Archaic Torso of Apollo”

дух, Russian for “spirit,” and Soma, defined as the body of an individual distinguished from the mind, is a space dedicated to the communication between consciousness, form, and creative potentiality. Here, creativity is explored as a form of resilience, healing, enjoyment, and the act of consciously cultivating meaning in our life. As a mother and current graduate student who is making my way towards a therapy practice, I am actively exploring the relationship between creative potential and healing potential. How does creativity inspire and fortify resilience? What does our art mirror back to us about our inner world, and how do we respond to our own interpretation? What messages are indigenous to our art that may be trying to communicate with us, if we are willing to get quiet and listen? To me, art will always provide the subtle yet revolutionary reminder that trauma can be responded to with intention; the ability to create is also the ability to choose. Here, you will find collections of poetry, photography, collage art and mandalas; all of which represent a dialogue between spirit and body—dialogues which have transformed trauma, which re-member sacredness in ordinary, and are in service of healing from the inside-out. I hope to bring connection between my heart and yours. If you would like to be in touch, please use the contact feature below!
